A new version of Photosynth has finally been released at http://photosynth.net.
The major change to the previous releases is that anyone can now upload their own sets of images to be processed ("synthed") by the service. A very early preview of the synthing tool was available already a couple of years ago internally at Microsoft where I got to try it out. That was a very intriguing experience and it is awesome that it has now been polished into a public service that anyone can use!
I asked a question about the IP (Intellectual Property) rights during a recent presentation by MS people, whether I need to give up some of the IP to use th service. The answer was: Photosynth does show copyright information (from exif data) to the person viewing the synth, but obviously MS needs to have permission to extract visual information (interest points) from the images and show them further to viewers. Also, if I delete a synth collection from the service it is really deleted and no longer stored anywhere at MS.
Jukka has also a Finnish translation of the original English announcement.
Photosynth welcome post.
