Live id gains ground and starts supporting OpenID.
Windows 7 has some cool new features:
- Mount vhds natively and even boot the host from a mounted vhd
- Simultaneously joined to a domain (at work) and in a workgroup (at home) as well as easier home networking
- Possibility to redefine what the shutdown button does in start menu
- Multi-monitor support in remote desktop
- Bitlocker can be used to secure USB flash drives
- Play media to other devices (such as home theatre etc)
I have to see how it runs as I get home and have the time to install the preview copy.
Office 14 now finally has web versions! At least some of the functionality is a Silverlight app. It is interesting to see what is the licensing model.
"Oslo" initially seems like a disappointment for me. I continue wondering what is the relationship between it and DSL Tools. It seems that there is no relationship at all, which seems odd since Oslo has many of the same features as DSL Tools (a couple of years later), although in a more limited way in my opinion. It looks from outside like Don Box et al haven't synched their thoughts with Jack Greenfield, which they should have done.
First public CTP of Silverlight 2 Mobile is promised to be available during 1Q 2009.
