First things first, make room on the system drive by moving all the bulky files to another drive, easy right? Nope, not easy! it goes "Calculating required space..etc" and never comes back. Tryto kill the process, nay, you are not allowed. Try logging off, forget it, you are here to stay.

arrrrrrgh... Hel the power button for a while (4 second didn't do it!), reboot and started searching the net. I found this:

http://blogs.msdn.com/wndp/archive/2007/07/05/receive-window-auto-tuning-on-vista.aspx

Basically run this in a command window and try moving the files again.

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

It gives some BS numbers like 7 hours to move 4.5 GB, but at least it starts moving things, an then adjusts the estimates as it goes. I don't really need to know in advance how long it is planning on taking.

If you look at the download list descriptions, they list five groups (1-5), however the actual download packages are number 1,2,4,5,6. They have skipped 3, shifting the numbers accordingly. So after some 30 minutes of download and unpack I found out that I had the wrong package (needed 3 and 5 which turned out to be 4 and 6 instead).

I hope this will save someone the time I wasted..

Well first of all the MUI is not on the DVD, so you need to download it from the web, after passing the gauntlet of the Genuine verification..etc. Or you can bypass that by going here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=e9f6f200-cfaf-4516-8e96-e4d4750397ff&displaylang=en

The language name hyperlinks are not active so, there is no way to switch from the english language pack..

It turns out the only way to get a copy of the language and the related SP1 is to change the language suffix in the URL to the two letter language abbriviation, say fr for French.

It is primarily a backup utility however it has this cool feature that allows you to convert the backup to a VHD/VMK..Two step P2V (Physical to Virtual), which I could live with if it worked fine.I had some issues so far, but I'm thinking it might have to do with my network connections. You see, I was using a remote drive over wireless as the destination disk for the backup, so after 2 hours of backup I tried converting it to VHD but the process failed half way through.

I'll give it another go, this time with all local components.
