"Financial data provider Thomson Corp announced today the completion of a $17.2 billion deal to acquire Reuters Group Plc, creating one of the world's largest news and data services company." - TOI
Thomson had reached an agreement to acquire Reuters for about $17.2 billion in a cash and stock deal almost a year ago. The two companies together have over 50,000 employees with operations in 93 countries on six continents and collectively had a revenue of $12.4 billion in 2007.
What does this deal signify? Is it too overpriced or would the knowledge base or content they own would form pool of information economy and in turn revenues for the company?! Do companies benefit from such acquistion?
Regardless, i hope the end user community would benefit in more quality news content! Cheers - Dipesh
