Thomson had reached an agreement to acquire Reuters for about $17.2 billion in a cash and stock deal almost a year ago. The two companies together have over 50,000 employees with operations in 93 countries on six continents and collectively had a revenue of $12.4 billion in 2007.

What does this deal signify? Is it too overpriced or would the knowledge base or content they own would form pool of information economy and in turn revenues for the company?! Do companies benefit from such acquistion?

Regardless, i hope the end user community would benefit in more quality news content! Cheers - Dipesh

Do we have new competition on block?

Ford created waves almost a century back when they came up with their first model T car that was competition to the existing horse carriage. Since then we have seen so many changes taking place in the automobile sector with players like GM and Chrysler coming up with new models to take heads on with Ford. We saw SUV's, sports car and different variations across the auto industry and then we have this Japanese companies in 1970's coming up with small car gas efficient concept that forces established companies for new strategy! The market share for companies like Honda, Toyota and Nissan really shoring sky rocket high. Everybody understands that how much importance strategy and vision is for a company and we have seen positive outcomes out of that.

Recently, i read the news which said "Japanese companies have reduced their global sales targets for the first time since years..." It is not only Toyota but Honda and Nissan are too foreseeing to miss their tragets! What's the deal ? Sure, few of the things are japanese currency yen has grown stronger over past few months and the demand has decreased significantly from countries like US, Eurpoe and others where they are strong! So the next question is what would be their next steps of action? what would they come up with next? what should be their strategy? Will they enter new markets and dump economically developed countries like US, UK? Will they be successful? or Will we see a new competitor ..Tata Nano? :) Let's wait and watch and we shall how things turn around....there's definitely more to play!

Cheers - Dipesh
