Setting up the Avanade Smartphone

The Audiox SMT5600 in my opinion mobile perfection – assuming you’re a phone user before a Email/Internet user.  This phone and it’s bizzaro brothers (i-mate SP3, Orange SPV C500, etc.).  It’s the king of the current Windows Mobile 2003 space.  This phone has come to be known as “The Avanade Phone” because so many of us have them.

I’m not a gadget guy by Avanade standards so I’m about two years late to this party.  I’ve been clunking around the horrible Samsung i600 smartphone for longer than I care to admit – mainly because I had family pressure to stay on the Verizon network.  I finally servered ties w/ CDMA and moved over to GSM and the Audiox.

Here are the settings for getting your data plan up and running on the T-Mobile network (thanks Joe for sending these to me).

  • First create a new GPRS connection by navigating through the following menu items
    • Start -> Settings -> More... -> Data Connections -> Menu -> Edit Connections -> GPRS Connections -> Menu -> Add
  • Enter the following properties for the new connection:

    • Description: <friendly name of your choice>

    • Connects to: The Internet

    • Access point: internet2.voicestream.com

      • if internet2.voicestream.com does work, try internet3.voicestream.com

    • User name: <leave it blank>

    • Password: <leave it blank>

    • Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0

    • Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

    • IP address: <leave it blank>

  • Select the GPRS connection you just created as your internet connection:

    • Start -> Settings -> More... -> Data Connections

    • Internet connection: <friendly name of your choice>

    • Work connection: Automatic

    • WAP connection: Automatic

    • Secure WAP connection: Automatic

  • Glue everything together

    •  Start -> Internet Explorer –> Menu -> Options -> Connections Select Network -> Select "Internet".  This translates to the GPRS connection you just setup

      • Select Network: Internet

      • Automatically Detect Settings: Unchecked

    • Start -> ActiveSync -> Menu -> Options -> Server Settings

      • Inbox: Turn on synch (if you desire)

      • Calendar: Turn on synch (if you desire)

      • Contact: Turn on synch (if you desire)

      • Connection: Fill out Avanade Exchange info (email me if you need this info)

    • Start -> ActiveSync -> Menu -> Options -> Mobile Schedule

      • set the info according to your desires – should be pretty self explanatory
