Give Me Coffee First

BlogMailr Service

I'm trying this out. It looks like a pretty neat service, especially for those who don't like to edit your posts online and/or don't feel like trying out Windows Live Writer (are you NUTS?!!? - get it at http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/9/a/f9a19f2d-cec4-4a25-9b0b-eb9655ea7561/Writer.msi)

Point your browser to www.blogmailr.com. Sign up for a free account and add your blog(s). It's SO easy... You tell it where to look for your blog, and it does the work to figure out how to add it... Total time to set up my account: 5 minutes. If you use CommunityServer (like this
site), it literally sets itself up.

If you don't, it's a little more complex, as you have to point it to the metablog api endpoint for your particular blog software. It goes something like:

Go into "Add a Blog", for the web address, enter your blogs URL and then enter your login and password.

Press "Find My Blog"

It will come back saying it can't find it, and now has a dropdown for "Blogging software" with "Custom" selected, and a textbox for "Web service endpoint".

Enter your metablog api endpoint address (such as http://[yourdomain]/[yourblogname]/services/metablogapi.aspx for .TEXT) and press "Find My Blog" again, and it's ready to go!

Then... You send an email to the address they provide for you (VCard to save in your address book). And BAM! Like magic your new blog post appears.

A couple of things to keep in mind:
1. The subject of your emails becomes the title of your blog post
2. You cannot select Categories or Tags
3. Picture uploads... well, probably better to edit the post once it's been posted to the site.

I like it. I'm not sure how much I'll use it (I use Windows Live Writer), but it'll be fun to try out for a while.

UPDATE: It takes a couple of minutes to show up on the site once you email the post. Also, it added a bunch of line breaks that I wasn't expecting and messed up some of the URLs. BUT, it'll work for simple things.
